In HIM - Live as the True You

Have your feelings ever taken you on a roller-coaster and gotten you into trouble? People can experience headache and heartache in relationships all because of feelings.

The Trap

In the emotional realm, feelings have a loud voice. If you let them, they will always try to convince you and make you believe that what you feel is the real you.

It's an easy trap to fall into until you start renewing your mind with the Word of God (Romans 12:2).

The True Mirror

Let's consider it this way: When you look in the mirror, do you see your true self?

Well, you may think you are seeing the real you, but in reality what you see in the mirror is just your reflection. But if the mirror we look into is distorted or foggy, the way we view ourselves might become distorted as well.

The Word of God is the mirror you need to look into.

James 1:22-25 says to "be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing" (ESV).

In Him - The Reality

As we read the Bible, we'll begin to see and understand our new reality in Him, and it will propel us to live out of our new identity in Him.

In Him, you are:

  • Redeemed (Romans 3:24)

  • A New Creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)

  • Righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21)

  • A Child of God (Galatians 3:26)

  • and so much more!

Live as the True You

You are a “three-part” being. You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Your spirit became brand new the instant you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Your born-again spirit is filled with the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

The fruit of the Spirit can override what we feel. "What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature" (Galatians 5:16, GNT). We can become some aware of our new spiritual reality that we align our thoughts and feelings to the Truth. Rather than letting our self image and our actions align to what we think or feel, we can walk in the Spirit.

Jesus lived this example for us, and 1 John 4:17 says, that as Jesus is, so are we in this world. "In Him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28, NKJV). You get to enjoy living in love, joy, peace every minute of your day, and every day of your life.

Have confidence in your new identity and act on the mirror of the Word of God, because since we are in Him, we are just like Him in this world. Renew your mind to the Word and live as the true you!
